Spotlight on Bailey's Nana

Dear Nana,

Thank you for taking me every Friday for some one on one time. I love being able to get all my energy out at Gymboree and the park. I tried really hard to convince my mom to let me go back to your house last night by crying for MY NANA all the way home, but she didn't go for it. She said you had to rest. She also told me that I had to share you with Blake, and Owen, and Rebecca. See you on Tuesday for mommy's birthday party. I love you!

MY BLAKE

As mineitis is making its way back through our house there was actually one time it made my heart melt. Yesterday morning out of nowhere Bailey started saying MY BLAKE, HE'S MY BLAKE while she was sweetly holding her little brother. How can such loud words be matched with so tender of a hold?

2 Week Report

The past two weeks have gone by in a blur of feeding, changing, and trying to get Blake to sleep as long as possible, but that's no surprise for a newborn. What has been the biggest surprise is Miss Bailey. Since Blake's birth she has been unusually sweet, patient, great at sharing, and overall such a good big sister. Just as we were starting to adjust to our new normal we thought that Bailey's good streak was going to be over because she didn't have school this week due to Spring Break and it also worked out where Franny could not take Bailey to Gymboree. Much to our surprise she has continues the good streak.

The big event from this week was that Blake had his 2 week appt with a new pediatrician, which was also when I attempted my first outing with both kids. I am happy to report that both experiences went really well. Here are his stats:

Weight: 7lbs, 15 ozs (25th percentile)

Height: 21.5 inches (70th percentile)

Sadly at the second doctor's appt I arrived without Blake's diaper bag, so no diapers or wipes, and no change of clothes. Of course I needed all three things.

Our camera broke at one of the lowest points of the week, and therefore have no pictures after Monday morning, but other events would be

Brother and Sister

I was looking back at Bailey's early pictures today and remembering what she looked like. Here's one of her and Blake at the same age. Poor Blake- he's a little yellow.

Blake's Birth

Blake is making it easy on us to remember his birthday- 3, 2, 1, 0 or 3/2/10 and here's how it all happened (according to Luke). We are making sure we blog about this so we don't forget the details and although it will never be the birth story that Bailey's was, never the less, it was just as exciting for us.

Melissa woke up a little after 2 a.m. with some cramping and a contraction. Unsure if these were Braxton Hicks or not she tried to go back to sleep, but 10 minutes later another one happened. At about 3 a.m. she woke me up and told me that it might be "IT". I told her that if that was the case that I was going to try to get more sleep, but 30 minutes later she ask me to stay up with her. I showered and starting getting some things done for work just in case. At 3:45 Melissa texted her mom "Have been having contractions for a little over an hour that are 10 mins apart. I think it might be baby time, but don't jump in the car just yet. Will update if anything changes." They continued to be 10 minutes apart until 7 a.m. Then the contractions went from 10 mins apart to 15 mins apart so Mel thought her labor was slowing down. Therefore, she sent me off to get some work errands done, but I was to be back to take Bailey to preschool at 9:30. However, at 8:39 I get a text that said "The last few contractions have been 5 mins apart". I replied "On my way". Apparently as soon as I left the contractions went quickly from 15 mins apart to 10 mins to 8 mins to 5 mins. Melissa finally feels comfortable enough that this is the real thing and sends out the following text "Baby Mezger should be making an appearance today." Shortly after 9 I got a phone call that the contractions are now 3 mins apart. The plan is to drop Bailey off at preschool and head to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital at 9:45 Melissa is 5-6 cm dilated. Shortly before noon she gets an epidural at 7-8 cms. Melissa almost immediately feels like herself again, which is good because Gigi and Aunt Tara arrive at the hospital. It was fun to relax and visit. At 3:10 the nurse lets us know that Melissa is 10 cm dilated and we began pushing. Melissa was so nervous with excitement that she was shaking. 5 rounds of pushing and 15 minutes later at 3:31 p.m. we finally got to hold a beautiful, healthy little boy. He was born weighing 7 lbs, 12 ozs and is 20.5 inches long. What a blessing to deliver in Austin and to have our actual doctor in the delivery room. We are also so thankful to be able to share this experience with friends and family who visited us at the hospital. What fun memories we have from our time in the hospital because of y'all! HOME!!!

How fun to come home to a decorated house! Thank you cousin Owen and Rebecca (and Aunt Ali and Uncle Kyle). Bailey LOVED it and thought they were birthday balloons.

Since she already thought she was coming home from preschool to a birthday party because of the balloons Gigi and Bailey made Blake a birthday cake.

The only bummer about the evening last night was that our washing machine stopped working. I don't know if you can tell from the picture above, but that's our washing machine. Handyman Luke took it apart and worked on it, but we need to order a part to get it up and running again. Thank goodness Gigi had all of our laundry clean.

It's a Boy!!!

Wow, did I really just type those words? It's amazing how in the course of a few seconds your life can change so much. Anyways, Blake Colton decided to make his grand appearance yesterday. Here are a few quick pictures of the little guy and his big sister.
