The Best Thing You Could Hear as a Parent

So, Blake just casually walks into the kitchen this afternoon and says, "I did what you told me to do". I spin around quickly and say "You talked to Jesus & ask him to come live in your heart???" to which he says "yes" gettting super embarrassed and does not want to talk about it much. (For the record, I didn't tell he had to do this, just that he could if he wanted to and some of what to say.)

For documentation's sake, let me back up to two nights ago at Bible story time in the Mezger house. It was Blair's turn to pick the story and she picked The Warrior Leader out of the Jesus Storybook Bible about Joshua & Jericho. The last three sentences are what sparked the discussion- "One day he would give his people another Leader. And another home. But this home, no one could ever take from them". My mom gets us some Bible DVDs and Blake has always been fascinated with the DVD about heaven and angels. So after reading this story we talked about heaven, who the leader of heaven was and how you get into heaven. We told him that at any point, he could talk to Jesus and ask forgiveness for his sins and ask Jesus to be in charge of his life, be his leader, and that he would get his name written in the book of life and get to spend the rest of his days in heaven. He ask "Do good people get into heaven?" to which we explained that no, holy people get into heaven. We explained what holy meant and also what the other choice was- hell and who the other leader was. I remember him clearly taking in that there were two teams, two choices and him not wanting to be on Satan's team, maybe even tearing up just the teeniest, tiniest bit. Anyways, I didn't think anything of our talk until, he just walks into the kitchen and tells us he had talked to Jesus! Such an exciting day here!!!
