Gigi's Vist & More on Bailey's Birthday

A week before Bailey's birthday we had a Friday park playdate with friends from ACS. Morgan and Bailey both had September birthdays, which worked out perfect to sing to both of them while the moms got some much needed fellowship time.

That same day, Luke and some of his guy friends headed off for a hiking trip of the Tetons in early September. Luke said he had the time of his life. This post has been delayed due to my wanting him to narrow down his pictures so I could post some, but here is a glimpse of animals, mountains, guns and friends.

Luke and Kyle almost made it to the top of the South Teton, but ran out of time.

The boys- Carlos, Kyle, Gunar, Luke, and Joel

Anyways, my mom came down to help/spend some pre-birthday time with Bailey. Early birthday fun included Chuck E Cheese, getting to see Planes in the theatre, making Bailey a matching skirt to her 6 shirt, plus she got to open her birthday present early which spread out the gifts.

Bailey loves her "6" outfit!

A sweet reunion with daddy when he came home.

 Bailey's Aggie Watch Party

If I can't be at Kyle field watching the Aggies, then I certainly want to be watching it with Aggie friends, especially when the opponent is the #1 ranked team who we beat last year. Also, the game was on a national network and not cable so we could host and watch it at our house. The tricky part was that the game was on Bailey's actual birthday and I didn't really have it in me to host a kid's birthday party plus there is nothing like watching the game with a group of Aggies, so we just invited our Aggie friends and called it Bailey's Aggie Watch Party.

The only decoration I had was a welcome sign where I compiled all of Bailey's Aggie pictures. It was fun to look back and reminisce.

Blair decked out in her Aggie cheersuit. If you look above you can find Bailey in the same suit at the same age.

A good looking group of Future Aggies!

These kids played great together and I felt like I actually got to watch the game. Thanks bouncey house! We ended up buying one since we lost our sweet deal that we had been using the last 4 years.

The girls- maroon looks good on Aggies and those who marry Aggies as well!

The day of the game I went looking for an elephant since Alabama's mascot is the elephants, but walked away with this. It provided some good half-time entertainment.

For those no Aggies out there it says " Help Bailey BTHO (beat the hell outta) Bama!!!"

Poor Blue! With so many people in our house this was the safest space for her (under the kitchen table).

It was a great day despite the loss and happy 6th birthday to Bailey!

Happy Birthday Bailey

I can't believe that 6 years ago (and 3 days) I first laid eyes on this beautiful girl.

My how the time has flown and we thank God for you everyday. I love what your teacher said about you this year, "Bailey posesses great quantities of love, imagination, creativity, charisma and energy." I could add so much to that, but one of my favorite things about you is your silliness and ability to make me laugh. Just today, you told me "Mommy, since I am the first born, then I get the birthright, right? Not Blake or Blair. And mommy, I wouldn't sell it for no soup, no matter how yummy to my tummy it was." : ) Can you tell what we have been learning about in school?

Happy 6th Birthday Bailey!

We are excited that College Football has started up, so we can cheer on the Aggies!

2 Gig 'Ems & a #1!

Mezger Family Fun Days

The older two had been asking to have some family adventures lately, as if we don't spend enough time with them as it is. Let's just say that their persistence won out.

Family Fun Day #1 was a canoeing trip on Lady Bird Lake. The plan was that I would walk the trail around the lake and meet Luke by Zilker park to trade kids and then we would meet back up at the Rowing Center. It was very hot and I am very out of shape, but the kids LOVED it, especially seeing all the swans up close. I had no idea how many there were!

Luke and Bailey's turn

And then Blake's turn!

We saw this swan as we chased Luke & Blake around.

Family Fun Day #2 was heading out to fish at Uncle Doug's Dock. It was actually a slow day of fishing, but that's okay because we just rode the paddle boat and swam more, but that's not to say we didn't try to fish. I actually accused Luke at one point of doing something wrong because the fish kept eating our bait, but we did eventually get some catches.

Playing with the worms.

I was the first to get a catch, but it was only a perch and NOT what the kids wanted to see.

They wanted us to catch "Mr. Whiskers" or catfish so we can fry them up.

Blake was SO patient and tried SO hard to catch a fish and didn't. I was very proud of how he took it.

Homeschooling with a Houseful

I can't believe we are already on our third week of school! Bailey goes Mondays & Wednesdays to Austin Classical and I homeschool her on Tuesdays & Thursdays with what her teacher tells me to teach. The best way I know how to explain what we are doing is a homeschool hybrid. We truly believe this was the right decision for Bailey for many reasons, however, preschool hasn't started yet, which means Blake and Blair are at home while I am teaching Bailey AND although I am loving teaching Bailey, it has been a little challenging learning to juggling everything and everyone. One example of this, is that my kitchen table is now the place we eat, the place we do school, my desk, my dumping ground, & where I fold laundry. Try to keep it ready for its needed purpose has been a learning opportunity that I am getting better at each day, but needless to say these first few weeks have been harder than I thought so when homeschooling looked like this the other day I took a picture, but that was for one second and just to be clear- this is not normal! Normal was too messy for a picture.

One cute story:

Bailey learned a song about the 7 continents the first week of school. Well, this week she is learning about the vowels and consonants & consonants and continents sure sound a lot alike to her. Really confused, Bailey eventually said how can there be 21consonants when there are 7 at which point she started naming them- North America, South America, Europe, etc. After some giggling, I realized the mistake and helped her understand the two different words, but I agree they sound a lot alike.

Oh, and to Bailey's delight they also learned about dinosaurs & fossils last week and her teacher sent me this picture of my future paleontologist. I love Bailey's teacher and the time she took to send this to me.

Looking forward to next week when Blake and Blair start preschool and everyone gets on schedule because this girl may be cute, but she is a mess, A MESS!

1st day of Kindergarten

What a day-
Bailey's first day of real school!
Bailey not loving the attention at all and being really nervous!
My little girl asking me to pray for her to not be nervous, for a classmate who is sick and missed the first day of school, and to help her get along with her classmates.
The first day EVER of Austin Classical School!!!
My parents coming down to share this special day with us!
Carpooling with some of our favorite neighbors!
Yes ma'am, no ma'am, and obedience abounding this evening from the kindergartner!
And an almost completely clean house and worn out Blake & Blair thanks to the grandparents!
What a day!!!

After all that smiling she wanted a silly picture.

Her class, minus her friend Mia who was sick.

One with her teacher, Mrs. Strickland.
