I never thought those
words would come out of my mouth, NEVER. Shouldn't I have known better after saying I would never drive a minivan?
Anyways, I knew that today's cloth diapering wasn't doing some magic oragami & sticking your finger with a pin that I pictured my mom doing, but I didn't know too much about it until recently. For about 8 months I watched my friend Allie cloth diaper her daughter and we would talk about it on occasion.
Somehow, a little over two weeks ago I ended up borrowing some of her supplies to do what I thought would be a 2-3 day trial just to see what it was like AND... I am here to report that it's not bad and I might even like it! Although let me be clear that since I am breastfeeding exclusively it's a whole different clean up than once you start formula & solids. Not sure how long I will last in that ballgame.
What I really like about it is the thought of saving money (it's essentially free since I am borrowing everything) and also, I like that Blair doesn't blow out of cloth like she does every other day in disposables. Believe me, I would love to say goodbye to the nickname Blowout Blair!
So that is how I began the journey of cloth diapering. Just a sweet friend letting me borrow what she wasn't using and being willing to give it a to try to save my family a buck or two. Never say never!

haha! yay!! what brand are these? blair looks adorable... we use the g-diaper cloth system on teagan and we love it, too! we also have some biodegradable disposables for when we are out and about... we've started to mix breastmilk and formula and the cleaning hasn't been much different :-) not sure how it'll be once solids come into play, but we can't turn back now! if you're looking for wet-dry bags to store the dirty diapers in between cleanings, i love the Planet Wise bags- you can just throw them in the washer with the dirty stuff- and they're cute prints!
She cooks, she cleans, she gardens, she sews, she cloth diapers...regular old pioneer mama right here :)
Blair is too cute! Glad you got the opportunity to experience cloth diapering...wished I had :)
We've loved CDing with kate & now luke, too! Easier than i imagined! And does save a bundle, esp saves on trips to the store just for dipes! :-P One of my favorite parts is that even after they're out of diapers you still hold the dipes as assets & can resell to recoop your investment! Have fun with this exploration... miss y'all!! Hugs to you & the family!
