Well, last Friday night I went to bed with what I thought was the beginnings of a stomach bug. When nothing happened overnight and the severe abdominal pain settled on the right side, we decided to go to my doctor. He sent us to the emergency room and as soon as we got the results of the cat scan, I was wheeled in to surgery for an emergency appendectomy. I ended up going to Santo for part of my recovery so that Luke could work and my mom could help me with the kids. The hard part of the recovery is that I can't lift Blake for 2 weeks and I am supposed to be taking it easy. That means that this week should be interesting. Not exactly sure what taking it easy looks like with two kids. While up in Santo we got to watch all the homecoming festivities for the Santo Wildcats. A couple of years ago, some people in our small group started asking about homecoming mums because they didn't do them where they grew up. I was giggling in my head at what they would think of all the homecoming activites. So, for those of you who didn't grow up in Texas I am going to educate you on a typical small town homecoming. It consists of:
1. the homecoming mums- this is a fake mum flower adorned with all kinds of spirit craziness that the girls of the school are presented with my their homecoming dates and are worn Fridays at school and at the game. Each school has their own rules about this one. Some school stop this tradition in middle school, while others continue this through high school. For the little ones, usually their moms make them one. Oh, and if your worried that the boys get left out, they aren't. They wear a toned down version on their sleeves.
2. the homecoming date- in the weeks before homecoming, the boys of the school ask the girls of the school "Will you to homecoming with me?". This mean they want to buy you a mum (with his name on it) and walk around with you at the football game. If you aren't going out with a boy then this could be an indication of a future "Will you go out with me?".
3. the homecoming courts- This is a group of girls, sometimes boys nominated by their class who get dressed up (think prom dresses) and are presented at half time of the football game. One of the senior girls is named homecoming queen.
4. the homecoming parade- lots of floats/decorated cars and trucks. The homecoming court is also shown off here. Each class usually makes a float and someone is named the winner.
5. the pep rally- got to pump everyone up. If it looks like a good season, there might even be mention of going to state.
6. THE FOOTBALL GAME- can't forget about the game and unless you team is really bad you will win the game because the coach picked someone to play that the home team could beat.
Okay, you get the picture. Lots of spirit activities! Anyways, Bailey has been very excited to see the Santo WILDCAT ever since basketball season ended. Let's just say she thought it was the coolest thing ever. WE first saw her at the pep rally/parade and then again at the football game. The entire football game we were chasing the wildcat around so that we could always see it. If you are ever babysitting Bailey and really want her to behave, just put on a mascot costume. We also got to see my little sister on homecoming court. I can't believe she is a SENIOR! Where did the time go? Speaking of that Blake turned 7 months old yesterday. He is a busy little man. One of my favorite things he is doing right now reminds me alot of Bailey. He can open a can of puffs. Check out the video below for that and other pictures from homecoming.

The Puffs Man. His strategy is to pop the lid off and dump the puffs on the ground, then feast.
