Growing Like a Weed: Bailey

Bailey, Bailey- where to start?

On Mother's Day, Luke and I both seperately realized that we have completed 25% of raising her. She will be 5 in 4 months- CRAZY!?!? I was reminded once again how precious and quick these little years are. This was her school picture this year. I had completely forgotten it was picture days or she might have been wearing something else, but otherwise I love this picture of her.

PBS has this saying "get outside, get into nature" and that's a good way I would describe her right now. The messier the better! The dirtier the better! And she loves to be outside! She is very observant as well and is always on the lookout for a creature or lost treasure. Recently, on back to back Mondays we have found turtles on our walk.

When she is not climbing a tree, helping Luke in the garden, riding her bike, or jumping on the trampoline, then she is usually inside pretending to be Clarence the dog, coloring/painting, playing with her stuffed animals, listening to books on CD or helping mommy. Both she and Blake love to be kitchen helpers, although only Bailey can really help.

Bailey is very social and is always wanting playdates. She also doesn't know a stranger and is always saying hi to anyone we pass, and introducing herself. Three examples are:
  • We were at Franny's house playing in the front and Bailey saw a neighbor in the side yard, so she decided to go introduce herself. Well, one thing lead to another and before we knew it Bailey had ask the neighbor if she went to church and when she said no, then invited her to go with us.
  • Luke took Bailey with him to his jobsite. As soon as they got there, Bailey yelled "HELLO!!!" out the window at the workers. Luke kindly explained that they spoke Spanish, and no sooner was she yelling "HOLA!!!".
  • We were at the snow cone stand about a month ago and I ask a cute college couple if we could share the picnic table with them to eat our snow cones. Bailey quickly said "Hi, I'm Bailey, what's your name?", followed by "Do you know Tori's friend Dan?" Of course they said no and she replied with "Well, he's tall".
Other than that, we are saying goodbye to Ms. Ruthie next Tuesday. She has been Bailey's preschool teacher this year and is absolutely phenomenal with the kids. We will miss school this summer, but I am gearing up for lots of playdates, field trips, and activities for Bailey.
