A Good Start to the New Year

For the sake of documentation because I really want to remember this-

On New Year's Day morning 2013 around 7 am, Bailey comes and crawls in bed with Luke and I and starts talking to us. We are exhausted from staying up past midnight and just mumbling back to her, trying to go back to bed until she says, "Mommy, I just ask Jesus to be my Savior".

Me (now very awake), "When?"

Bailey, "Just now in my room".

Me (thinking- wow)

Bailey, "I just wanted to be a part of God's family and go to heaven when I die".

Me (thinking- did she really just say that?)

Me "How did you do this?"

Bailey "I prayed to him and ask him to come live in my heart".

Me "Then you know that if God is your Savior, then he died for your sins and that being a part of God's family means that you now have to not only obey mommy & daddy's rules, but also God's rules.

Bailey "Yep"

Me "You know that you will need to learn to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength & more than you love mommy & daddy."

Bailey "More than I love you?"

Me "Yes. Mommy loves God more than I love anyone else, even daddy."

Bailey "Okay"

Bailey "You know I had a dream about Gabriel, the messenger angel, and he told me to go in peace".

So I have had 3 days to think and talk through this with friends, family, and Bailey and I think this was just a precious way to start the New Year. It is a conversation I am likely to never forget in all my days! My job this next year is to strengthen the seeds of faith growing in my little girl so they continue to take root and grow to bear fruit. Thank you God for this sweet moment with my daughter.

My mom got the girls these matching outfits to wear for New Years and the star made me think about this verse- "Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation". Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. " Phillipians 2:14-16

And just because this was silly- After seeing that both Bailey and Blair had new bows, Blake said "What about me?"

And speaking about you Blake, he just said his first prayer that went something like this-

Dear God, Thank you for vacations. Thank you for everything. You help us. Thank you for this yummy food. (This is word for word what Bailey says when she prays before supper.) Thank you for Pa's tractors, and for diggers, and front-end loader, and trains, and constructions sites....

AMEN!

What a sweet little boy who knows exactly what he is thankful for. : )
